Armed robbery occurs in Lavin-Bernick Center on Saturday afternoon

A student reported that a Hispanic male sat down at a table with her and her two friends, revealed that he had a firearm in his waistband and demanded that she retrieve money from the ATM machine at 3:45 p.m. Saturday at the Lavin-Bernick Center, according to reports from Tulane University Police Department.

The student complied with the unknown man’s request. He then fled the LBC through Pocket Park. The suspect was seen leaving campus on Freret street headed toward Calhoun Street.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his mid-20’s with a thin build. He was wearing all black clothing with a winter hat. 

TUPD Superintendent Jon Barnwell confirmed that this crime is not associated with the aggravated assault reported in Howard-Tilton Memorial Library on Sept. 25 via email correspondence.

TUPD sent out a crime alert to recipients of its crime alert Listserv at 4:40 p.m. A crime alert was sent to the Tulane community at 5:20 p.m. New Orleans Police Department is investigating. If you have any information about this crime, call NOPD at 504-821-2222.
