Tulane University Police Department announced that the aggravated assault that allegedly took place the afternoon of Sept. 25 in Howard-Tilton Memorial Library was false report. A crime alert was sent out Wednesday confirming that the alleged victim saw no weapon of any kind and that he filed a false report with TUPD.

The Hullabaloo reported on Sept. 25 that a non-affiliate was approached in the first-floor bathroom of the library at 1:45 p.m. by two men with an unidentified firearm. The victim had reported that the two suspects threatened him before fleeing the building.

TUPD Superintendent Jon Barnwell said the event was a “targeted incident” where the suspect and the victim knew each other but that neither was affiliated with Tulane in an email sent to Hullabaloo staff Sept. 25.

Later on the same day, TUPD sent out an updated crime alert saying that the victim never saw a weapon in the bathroom and that the suspects, who were originally reported to be non-affiliates, were actually students.

This information has now been proven incorrect upon further investigation from TUPD who confirmed Wednesday that the entire report had been falsified.
