Right from the start, the beatdown was on and for the second straight year, as Tulane gave up more than 90 points to the No. 1 Connecticut Huskies, losing 96-38 Wednesday at Devlin Fieldhouse.

UConn’s senior forward Breanna Stewart led the way for the Huskies, scoring 20 points off seven of eight shooting from the floor, tallying seven assists. Senior guard Moriah Jefferson also set the pace scoring 16 points off seven of 11 shooting, notching six assists and forcing six steals.

The Green Wave had no answer for UConn the entire game, as the Huskies forced 26 turnovers, scoring 41 of its 90 points off of turnovers.

“When we come out and shoot the ball the way we shot it in the first 10 minutes, it’s really hard for the other team [to keep up],” UConn head coach Geno Auriemma. “It doesn’t matter who it is, it could have been anyone.”

The Huskies tamed the Green Wave’s key offensive threat Kolby Morgan to 10 points off of four of 14 shooting, zero for six from deep.

This marks one of the worst losses in Tulane women’s basketball history, as the team lost by 58 points.

The Wave makes its way to Houston this weekend to try to bounce back against the Cougars at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
