At the end of the 2014-15 football season, coaches, players and fans said goodbye to two top cornerbacks. Junior Lorenzo Doss and senior Taurean Nixon both declared their intent for the NFL draft at the end of last year.

A year later, Doss and Nixon are still together. The Tulane teammates are now playing for the Denver Broncos.

This year’s draft was held in Chicago where Doss was drafted in the fifth round and Nixon in the seventh. Both are adjusting to the high level of professional play.

“You know, coming into the NFL, it’s a lot different from college, but it’s great,” Nixon said. “I’m in the locker room with Aqib Talib, Chris Harris, Peyton Manning, Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware. [I’m] teammates [with all these guys]. [Getting the chance to] learn from those guys has been one of the biggest things for me.”

Doss and Nixon have had a positive transition from playing in the Crescent City to the Mile High City.

“It’s unbelievable,” Doss said. “Just being in that stadium … it’s unbelievable. I think being on this team is a great opportunity. I feel like it’s a great feeling and I’m looking forward to holding up a Super Bowl trophy.”

Both Doss and Nixon returned to their former home, Yulman Stadium, on Sept. 19 for the Green Wave’s first win of the season with a score of 38-7 against Maine.

“I feel like we have a young team right now,” Nixon said. “As the season goes on we play some tough teams, so a win against Maine was a great game for our team. The game was pretty good, we beat them pretty bad. I’m proud of those guys and I think they’re going to win more games as the season goes on.”

After seeing the Green Wave beat Maine, Doss and Nixon gave their words of wisdom to their former teammates and the new team for the continuation of their season. Doss and Nixon aimed at inspiring the Wave to keep the momentum they recently gained.

“Keep working hard,” Nixon said. “Keep believing in one another. Keep believing in Tulane, and roll wave.”

Next time you see the Denver Broncos play this season, keep an eye out for the dynamic duo donning numbers 37 and 39.
