Horror Film Festival will garner terrific success and terrifying screams

If you are a fan of kids who can see dead people, nightmares on Elm Street, chainsaw massacres in Texas, hauntings, shinings or exorcisms, this month’s New Orleans Horror Film Festival will not disappoint.

The fifth annual festival will promote horror filmmaking not only in and around New Orleans, but also across the country and even the world on Sept. 24 through 27 at Rare Form, located at 437 Esplanade Avenue.

With sponsorships from production and media companies including Iatse Local 478 Motion Picture Studio Mechanics, Terror Films and Tulane’s very own radio station WTUL New Orleans, The New Orleans Horror Film Festival hopes to celebrate “the craft and art of genre filmmaking at its finest.”

Described as a festival “by horror filmmakers, for horror filmmakers,” the New Orleans Horror Film Festival seeks to celebrate all things involving blood and guts by featuring a selection of feature films, short films and screenplays.

Past Best Feature winners from the festival have included “The Millennium Bug,” “It’s in the Blood,” “Found” and “Blood Punch.”

This year, the festival’s official selections for screenings range from “Bloodsucking Bastards” to “Soccer Moms in Peril” to “IBOP (International Brotherhood of Pancakes)” and almost everything in between.

One fear festival-goers won’t have is a lack of fellow horror fans with whom they can share their screams. Organizers expect an increase in viewers from last year’s standing-room-only audiences.

Horror fans can purchase $8 tickets for one screening and, though the $75 weekend passes have sold out, $150 VIP weekend passes are still available through the New Orleans Horror Film Festival website.

The festival officially begins with an opening party on Sept. 24 at Mag’s 940 Bar on Elysian Fields Avenue.
