Final Green Wave Community Market connects new vendors, Tulane students

The final Green Wave Community Market will be held 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Tulane Hillel. The Green Wave Community Market is excited to bring fresh produce, art, homemade body products and other local vendors directly to Tulane students one last time before the spring semester comes to a close.

“We try to mix it up and have one vendor for each good, although we do have [some] vendors who have been very consistent,” sophomore Sarah Haensly, who helps find and contact local businesses to participate in the Community Markets, said. “And we love having them there, but we also like to switch things up.”

For the final Green Wave Community Market, Haensly says that organizers are awaiting confirmation from certain regular vendors that they will be participating in Sunday’s Market, while also continuing to search for new vendors to introduce to students.

“I love connecting students to people in the community; especially at Tulane, students get stuck doing their own thing, when there’s lots cool things happening in the community— music, art, food. The community market brings them all together into one place,” Haensly said.

As always, the Green Wave Community Market will be focused heavily on bringing fresh produce to students, as well as local prepared foods so that students have the option of eating a meal while perusing the offerings at the Market.

“We have art [from local artists], people who make body products, and we have student artists [in addition to] food,” Haensly said.

And the student responses to the Community Market’s diverse offerings have been increasingly positive this year—students are becoming progressively more interested in learning about both the passions of fellow students and New Orleans locals.

“I definitely think we’ve improved since last year,” Haensly said. “[Although] I think we’re still learning about how to reach out to students, especially with advertising before the markets and finding the best way to let people know.”

If you haven’t experienced the local Louisiana produce and other intriguing offerings at the Green Wave Community Market, take a break from your finals stress to stop by Sunday.
