Hannibal Buress is a name that is hard to forget for even more reasons than the fact that he shares it with the infamous cannibal. The Chicago-born comedian has risen to fame for his part as co-host of Adult Swim’s slapstick talk-show comedy “The Eric André Show” and as Ilana Glazer’s dentist and sometimes-boyfriend on the Amy Poehler-produced “Broad City.” Stand-up, however, is where Buress really shines. Buress will perform a free show 8 p.m. Monday at McAlister Auditorium.

Buress has covered everything in his routine. From what to do with a pickle jar containing only the juice to buying his own parade on a trip to New Orleans, his use of the ordinary is one of the most endearing qualities of his comedy.

“I love watching live comedy no matter what,” student Chandler Polakov said. “There are certain comedians out there who just know how to talk about the everyday and make the most mundane situations into the funniest things you’ve ever heard. Hannibal Buress is one of those comedians.”

Though he typically focuses on the everyday, Buress was somewhat recently thrust into the spotlight for bringing up Bill Cosby’s rape allegations in one of his bits.

“He gets on TV, ‘Pull your pants up black people, I was on TV in the ’80s. I can talk down to you because I had a successful sitcom,'” Buress said to a Philadelphia audience at the Trocadero Theatre in October, Slate reported. “Yeah, but you rape women, Bill Cosby, so turn the crazy down a couple notches.”

Though allegations circulating since 2004 had begun to resurface due to Cosby’s biography, it was Buress who brought the accusations back into the eye of the media.

The fame Buress has accrued from this mass media coverage has done its part to gain him audience members, as well.

“I just know he’s the guy who took down Bill Cosby, so I’m curious to see him,” student Alexandra Young said.

Buress is more than Bill Cosby accusations, though.

“I am by no means a comedy buff, but I’ve heard many positive reviews of him, and a few of my friends recommended that I go,” Hannah Craig said. “I’m looking forward to it.”
