Tulane baseball (6-1) swept San Francisco (0-8) in a three game series this past weekend at Turchin Stadium.

The Green Wave secured a 1-0 walk-off victory in the bottom of the ninth when senior infielder Tyler Wilson walked while the bases were loaded in game 1.

In the bottom of the ninth, San Francisco pitcher Anthony Buonopane relieved starting pitcher Anthony Shew and allowed Tulane to load the bases, and ultimately win the game when Buonopane walked Wilson.

Tulane sophomore pitcher Corey Miller allowed only five hits in addition to his 7.0-shutout innings. Freshman lefty pitcher Jackson Johnson made his collegiate debut pitching the other 0.2 innings.

“We played great defense tonight, and we found a way to hang in there and score a run,” head coach David Pierce said.

Tulane once again won in late-inning dramatics in game 2 when sophomore infielder Hunter Williams hit a solo game tying home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth after San Francisco took a 2-1 lead in the seventh inning.

Jake Rogers was then able to score on a bases loaded wild pitch in the bottom of the eleventh, leading the Green Wave to a 3-2 victory.

There were no late game dramatics in game 3. Instead, Tulane took an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Senior infielder Garrett Deschamp got his first hit of the year, a solo shot in the bottom half of the frame. Redshirt sophomore pitcher Eric Steel pitched the final 1.1 innings and picked up his first collegiate level save allowing one run in the process.

Tulane held onto the lead throughout the game and defeated San Francisco 5-3 to sweep the three-game set.

“We were fortunate to hit the long ball today, and [Tim Yandel] threw another great game for us,” Pierce said. “None of them are easy, and I think [San Francisco] will go home and do well, we were fortunate to get a sweep.”

The three home runs marked the second time this season the Green Wave have gone yard three times in one game. The other time was in the Wave’s 9-3 win against Pepperdine Feb. 13.

“All six games we’ve played have had some type of flair in the end,” Pierce said.

Tulane will face rival New Orleans Tuesday in New Orleans, La. and Wednesday at Turchin Stadium.
