After a record-breaking performance at the UCF Challenge Feb. 8-9 in Orlando, Florida, the American Athletic Conference named senior Gemma Dryburgh golfer of the week. She finished No. 3 individually and led Tulane to a No. 2 finish.

Dryburgh shot 8 under par, an individual and Tulane record, to finish one stroke off co-leaders from Virginia and Vanderbilt. Tulane finished one stroke behind the winner, No. 15 Virginia.

“It felt great [to be named golfer of the week],” Dryburgh said. “I haven’t had that honor since sophomore year so it was very exciting.”

Dryburgh’s proclivity began when she played with her father growing up and after attending IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Dryburgh displayed great ability and she became aware of her potential for a golf career.

With only a few months left before Dryburgh begins her career as a pro golfer, she has high hopes for the remainder of the season. Tulane is ranked No. 24 nationally and Dryburgh hopes to build on this momentum and win the AAC tournament. Dryburgh also hopes Tulane can continue its climb up the rankings, ensuring she leaves her mark within the Tulane program.

“I will miss Tulane a lot but I am excited and ready to begin playing at the next level,” Dryburgh said.

Head coach Lorne Don said Dryburgh has been an incredibly crucial part of the Wave golf program over the years.

“When I interviewed for this position [two summers ago], she was involved in the process and is a big reason I wanted to come [to Tulane],” Done said. “She is one of those people you want to be around.”

Unfortunately for the Wave, Dryburgh will be graduating shortly.

“I don’t like to think about her leaving, there are still a lot of goals ahead of her, and we want to finish her career on a high note,” Don said.
