Obituary: Laura Culp

Laura Culp, a sophomore at Tulane, died on Dec. 19. Laura, also known by close friends as Lala, Fourfish and Weezy, truly lived life to its fullest. She brought so much joy to people’s lives with her radiant smile, infectious laugh and positive energy. She had an unforgettable personality.

She was a Linguistics and Biology double major who aspired to go to law school. She loved languages and spoke French and Portuguese. She hoped to study abroad and considered going to South America or Africa. She enjoyed doing Mock Trial in high school, and she was a member of Tulane’s Model United Nations Travel Team, participating in conferences at McGill University, University of California-Berkeley, University of Pennsylvania and Duke University. She knew how to command a room and was extremely eloquent and well-spoken. She had a huge heart and a passion for people. She loved volunteering, especially at the Pines of Sarasota, a nursing home in her hometown Sarasota, Florida.

She always motivated those around her to be the best they could possibly be. Laura could be seen often at the Reily Student Recreation Center, dancing to her iPod in the squat rack before setting a personal record of a 315-lb back squat. She was the best listener, and she was overwhelmingly generous. She was an all-around amazing best friend in too many ways to describe. Her genuine compassion and her love for the world will never be forgotten. To know her was to love her and look at the world with love. She touched so many lives, and she will live on in our hearts forever.
