Tulane women’s basketball defeated McNeese State 75-55 at the Burton Coliseum Sunday afternoon.

For the fifth straight year, the Green Wave is 2-0 as well as tied last season’s best mark of opening wins with a combined 60-point margin of victory.

Junior forward Tierra Jones recorded 8-8 from the field, had four rebounds and one steal with 11 minutes of play. Jones also scored a career best 16 points.

Senior guard Danielle Blagg and freshman guard Kolby Morgan also scored in the double digits for the second time this season. Blagg went 4-4 from the free throw line and connected on 3 three-pointers. Blagg ended the game having scored 13 points. Morgan tallied 12 points and went 5-10 from the field, shooting at 50 percent or above for the second straight game.

In the past two games, Morgan has scored 28 points, which is the second best two-game debut in the last decade.

“I think [Kolby Morgan] is going to be a real special player. The thing we’ve seen is how much she means to this team on defense,” Head Coach Lisa Stockton said. “We knew she could score, but defensively she’s played really well. She’s very mature for a freshman.”

Tulane had its first big run of the game in the first half scoring ten points to put the score at 26-16. The Green Wave went into halftime with a 32-25 lead.

The McNeese State began to rally halfway through the second half going on a seven point run with 8:40 left in the game. Tulane’s defense yet again stepped up and held McNeese State to just one field goal over the next five minutes. The run resulted in a 17-2 swing for the Green Wave.

Junior center Chinwe Duru and senior forward Tiffany Dale each had 10 rebounds. Duru recorded a team high with three blocks and nine points while Dale scored six points on the three and two steals.

Tulane has now won seven straight games against McNeese State dating back to 1994.

Tulane next plays LSU in Baton Rouge Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.
