Green Wave football debuts new look

Tulane’s 2014-15 football season opener against Tulsa on Aug. 28 at H.A. Chapman Stadium in Tulsa, Oklahoma will be the Green Wave’s first game in the American Athletic Conference. Tulane will sport a newly designed uniform and logo on the field to celebrate the move from Conference USA to The American.

The green and white jerseys now feature a smaller “Tulane” text on the front. The smaller text size is the same size that the Green Wave used on its black alternate jerseys in the past.

The new helmets feature a green wave crashing over a green “T.” A gray-colored wave crashed over the “T” in the old logo. The “T” is also now outlined in white instead of gray, making it appear brighter. The player’s number moved from the back of the helmet to the side, and a center stripe runs down the new helmet, composed of two different shades of green.

Tulane Football will officially open the doors of Yulman Stadium 3 p.m. Sept. 6 against Georgia Tech and display its updated appearance for fans.

Tulane Director of Athletics Rick Dickson said the conference change will help the team gain more television exposure because of The American’s partnership with both ESPN and CBS Sports. An estimated 90 percent of the games this season will be televised on national broadcast or national cable.

“The exposure and visibility it will bring to Tulane and our programs is unprecedented,” Dickson said.
