I will SWOLEvive: Workout music to keep you going

We are a month into the new year, and your workout resolutions have probably fallen by the wayside. Luckily, The Hullabaloo has compiled a playlist that will breathe new life into your fitness journey. Here’s just a taste of what’s in store:

“POWER” – Kanye West

One could make a solid argument that Kanye is the king of power anthems, and “POWER” is his crown jewel. What could possibly pump you up more for a workout than the iconic war-like chanting and clapping at the beginning, intensified further by blaring sirens and his cocky attitude expressed in every verse?

“i” – Kendrick Lamar (Single Version)

As the winner of two well-deserved Grammy Awards, this 2014 single is just as effective at lifting spirits as it is at giving a boost of energy. A beautiful combination of catchy melodies, Kendrick’s undeniable talent and psychedelic sound effects makes this realistic take on the easier-said-than-done mantra of self-love an instant classic.

“Wavin’ Flag – Coca ColaⓇ Celebration Mix” – K’nann

If it’s good enough for the FIFA World Cup, it’s good enough for Reily. From captivating drum solo start to hard-not-to-sing-along-to finish, this upbeat remix of an inspiring hit is pure motivation. It’s sure to be as refreshing as water in the middle of a dreary workout.

“Dynamite” – Taio Cruz

This song, like many others that have been included, serves a distinct purpose: for some reason, during particularly difficult workouts, nothing seems to be able to offer the energy required to keep going like the nostalgic feeling of being at a middle school dance. If you’ve found this to be the case, look no further than Taio Cruz’s 2010 jam, which will certainly be stuck in your head for the rest of the day.

“Papaoutai” – Stromae

Despite Stromae’s infectious pop sound, catchy hooks and intriguing lyrics, he never quite managed to find success in America. Still, just about every song on this French pop legend’s debut album “Racine Carrée” is absolutely perfect for working out. This song, written for his father, will especially make you want to dance.

“Cold War” – Janelle Monáe

While Janelle Monáe’s voice is absolutely stunning in general, her vocals especially seem to soar on this track. The song’s quick tempo and somewhat cryptic lyrics are perfect for a particularly thoughtful run.

“I Will Survive” – Gloria Gaynor (more like Gloria GAINor)

Disco is a severely underrated genre, and Gloria Gaynor’s smash hit is the perfect introduction to its workout possibilities. The lyrics are positively empowering, and Gaynor’s beautiful crescendos will definitely give you the energy boost you need.
