Some people enter college with a sense of certainty, a long-established life plan in which they knew their major well before they knew which school they’d study it at. Others view the major declaration date a sophomore rite of passage as a fast-approaching deadline dictating their entire future, whether they are ready for it or not. To celebrate the occasion, and the two years of Tulane that students have under their proverbial belts, Newcomb-Tulane College is hosting Sophomore Week April 1- 5.

Sophomore Week is as much an opportunity to reflect on the past two years at Tulane as it is a time to plan for the next two. Tulane plans to provide information about going abroad, internships and research opportunities to attendees.

The week of programming kicks off Monday, April 1 at 12 p.m. with a “Next-Level Leadership” resource fair in the Pederson Lobby of the Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life. The main event, of course, is the Declaration Celebration on April 2 from 5-7 p.m. This event will be held outside the Academic Advising Center on Mussafer Quadrangle. Attendees will be given a Class of 2021 pin by a faculty member of their choice and can use it as an opportunity to recognize a member of the Tulane community who made an impact in their life.

A group of 40 sophomores will attend Wednesdays at the Square, an outdoor concert with live music and food trucks on April 3 from 4:30-8 p.m. in Lafayette Square Park. Starting at 10 a.m. on April 4, there will be a Research Brunch in the Cudd Hall lobby, and the week will round out with a Sophomore Tailgate from 5-6:30 p.m. on Mayer-Warren Quadrangle.

Sophomores must RSVP for the events of their choosing by Thursday, March 28.
