Football coach Willie Fritz dominates field, soundwaves with football talk show

For the second straight year, fans can look forward to hearing head football coach Willie Fritz break down past games, analyze future matchups and chat with special guests for an outsider’s look at the football program. His eponymous Willie Fritz Radio Show made its 2019 season debut on Aug. 27, just two days prior to Tulane’s season opener against Florida International University.

“We could not be more excited to welcome the Willie Fritz show back to Loft18 for the second straight season,” Loft18 president Greg Whitman said in a Tulane press release.

Adding some flair to the show, former Virginia Tech Hokies’ broadcast team member Andrew Allegretta joined Coach Fritz in the broadcasting booth as the brand new voice of the Green Wave following an exciting social media announcement.

While the fan experience has been greatly enhanced by the Athletics Department’s ability to directly communicate with fans via social media, the show looks to give a voice to members of the program, past and present, unheard elsewhere.

“The radio show will be able to provide fans … a voice to those individuals you hear about all the time on social media,” Tom Symonds, assistant athletics director of strategic communications, said. “By listening to the show, I really think fans will gain a strong understanding of who the players are and what drives them.”

Green Wave football fans will be able to pose questions to Coach Fritz via @GreenWaveFB on Twitter or by calling in at 855-325-7877.

The show will run live each Thursday from 6-7 p.m. with the exception of the show’s debut, and a special airing on Tuesday, Sept. 17, just before the Green Wave takes on AAC West Division favorite University of Houston on Sept. 19 in a nationally televised game on ESPN.

Tune in to listen to the show on Sports 1280 New Orleans and on 101.1 FM HD2. The first weekly radio show will air on 99.5 FM WRNO.
