She spoke with Boot management to learn more about the incidents before sending out a message of support to the victims, two Loyola students. The assaults, which took place on  Aug. 24 and Sept. 5, are being investigated by the New Orleans Police Department, Tulane University Police Department and Loyola University Police Department.

Unsuspecting students were drinking and socializing at the Boot when Cantrell showed up. The mayor posed for photos and spoke with patrons during her visit.

“The city cares,” Cantrell told The Hullabaloo. She said curbing sexual assault is a top priority.

The Sept. 5 victim woke up on the railroad tracks by the corner of S. Carrollton Avenue and Leake Avenue. Reportedly, on two occasions, an unknown male subject approached the victims and lured them off the premises before abandoning them.

“The Boot Bar and Grill expresses sympathy for the victims of the alleged sexual assaults,” Director of Operations Alexander A. Abbyad told Nola.com. “The Boot has policies and training for employees that aim to prevent and address any instances of suspicious and/or illegal behavior.”

Cantrell was on campus earlier in the day for the College Democrats of America 2019 Summer Convention, hosted by the Tulane College Democrats.
