Your guide to Art for Art’s Sake

On Saturday, Oct. 5, Magazine Street will be the stage for the annual Art for Art’s Sake event, celebrating the beginning of the New Orleans Art season. As fall begins, enjoying some cool New Orleans weather, music, art, shopping and drinks seems like the perfect option for a Saturday evening.

Those who partake in “Magazine Street’s biggest event of the year” can expect an easy-going night of browsing vintage jewelry and trying different New Orleans cuisine. From Webster Street to Thalia Street, participating venues will offer music, food, drinks, shopping and gallery openings. The event will begin at 5 p.m., and the party will last until 9 p.m. 

Here are a few offers from participating venues:

Dat Dog

Your favorite hot dog merchant will be displaying an array of local artists and their work while serving complimentary wine.

Rum House

If stopping for a pitcher of margaritas, beer or sangria sounds like your cup of tea, then stop by Rum House where they will all be $5 off during the event. 

Atelier Mimi

This gallery will be showcasing fiber installations with a guided walk at 3:30 p.m.

Aikido of New Orleans

While browsing art and fashion, you might want to stop in at Aikido and sign up for one week of free classes.

Art for Eyes

This store specializing in eyewear will be having a special Trunk Show from Jacques Marie Mage.

Cole Pratt Gallery

While listening to The Chris Scheurich Band, enjoy Danna Ruth Harvey’s art show, “The Sparrows,” consisting of complex collage and oil paintings.

Stafford Tile & Stone

The show at Stafford Tile & Stone will highlight the French Quarter Collection from Mosaique Surface.
