Tulane football stomps on Army, looks to continue winning streak against UConn

After years of agonizing seasons, the Tulane football team has begun to make a name for itself, going 4-1 in its first five games.

The only loss on the Green Wave’s record this year is against a ranked SEC opponent, Auburn University. Aside from that, Tulane defeated Florida International University on opening night, Missouri State in an absolute blowout, the University of Houston in one of the most chaotic and bizarre finishes in college football history, before traveling this past Saturday to West Point to face Army.

Against Army, the Green Wave combined for 525 total offensive yards, including more than 300 yards rushing. In addition to an impressive offensive showing, Tulane’s defense stood fast when it mattered most.

At the end of the first half as Tulane held a 21-14 lead, the Black Knights were threatening to score. At this pivotal moment, Green Wave junior defensive linemen Patrick Johnson came up with a big sack on fourth down, preventing Army from putting up any more points by halftime.

During the fourth quarter, Tulane was up 35-21 and Army had just turned the ball over on downs. The Green Wave proved its mettle once again, launching a 68-yard scoring drive, complete with a 41-yard rushing touchdown from Cameron Carroll, the first of his college career.

Army was able put together a scoring drive and recover a fumble for another touchdown, but it was too little too late, as Tulane went on to win 42-33. Tulane’s win at Army snapped the Black Knights’ 15-game home win streak

This coming Saturday, the Green Wave will return to action, taking on the University of Connecticut Huskies at Yulman Stadium. This is the fourth all-time meeting between these two teams, and the game will air live on ESPNU.

This game will serve as the Athletics Department’s Cancer Awareness Game and will showcase the College Football Playoff’s Extra Yard for Teachers program, where local teachers who have had a profound impact on students in the community will be honored.

Kickoff at Benson Field in Yulman Stadium. is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12.
