The Green Wave sailing team has participated in four competitions since The Hullabaloo’s last update on the team.

After finishing second and winning seven of nine events in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Regatta, the team traveled to New London, Connecticut, Sept. 28-29 to compete in the Women’s Showcase Semifinal Regatta. The Green Wave finished in ninth place, qualifying to compete in the Women’s Showcase Final at Navy on Oct. 12-13.

On Oct. 5-6, the sailing team traveled to St. Mary’s County, Maryland, to compete in the Coed Showcase Semifinal. On the first day of competition, the team finished in the top 10 of 10 races, including a win in the second race. On day two, the team finished with nine top-10 finishes.

Overall, the sailing team finished the regatta with 367 points and an 11th-place finish out of 18 competing programs.

“We are by far the youngest team, but I know we feel we are so close to breaking into the next level of performance,” head coach Charles Higgins said after the regatta. “The team is hungrier than ever, and I know they will be using this experience to fuel their drive to keep improving.”

The team participated in two regattas over the weekend of Oct. 12-13. In the Baldwin Wood Regatta, the Green Wave fell to the University of New Orleans but defeated Texas A&M Galveston, Texas, and Baylor to finish in second and third places. The Green Wave A team finished with 109 points, while the B team finished with 115 points

Over the weekend, the Green Wave also competed in the Women’s Showcase Final in Annapolis, Maryland. The team had a rough first day, finishing 15th out of 18 teams with five top-10 finishes.

The Green Wave competed in two races on Sunday, finishing in first place in the second race. The team finished the regatta in 15th place, however, because the event was suspended due to inclement weather.

The Tulane sailing team has five remaining regattas this fall, with the next competition being the Coed Showcase Finals in Newport, Rhode Island, on Sunday, Oct. 20.
