This October, Tulane Athletics is introducing an exciting opportunity for Green Wave fans. The inaugural Winterfest will take place Thursday, Oct. 24, at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse.

Winterfest is billed as a celebration of the upcoming seasons for Tulane’s winter sports teams. Admission is free for all, and parking will be provided for the event at no cost. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the student-athletes and interact with coaches.

The event runs from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and concession stands in the arena will be open. Winterfest will feature many activities involving student athletes, including autographs and giveaways. In addition, head football coach Willie Fritz will be hosting his radio show at Winterfest.

The Tulane teams in attendance will be men’s basketball, women’s basketball, bowling and women’s swimming and diving.

The men’s basketball team enters the season with high expectations after the hiring of new head coach Ron Hunter. The roster is significantly different from last year’s 4-27 campaign, and the addition of graduate transfers K.J. Lawson, Christion Thompson and Nic Thomas bodes well for a more competitive Green Wave team this year. 

The women’s basketball team is led by head coach Lisa Stockton, who is returning for her 26th season. The Tulane women will be looking to improve on their 15-15 record from last season. The team has several tough conference matchups this year, including back-to-back games at the University of Connecticut and at Cincinnati. 

The women’s bowling season is already underway, with the team hosting the Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Bowling Invitational. No. 14-ranked Tulane placed seventh in the competition against a highly competitive field. The bowling team is hoping this performance will be a sign of another successful season.

The women’s swimming and diving team is looking forward to a successful season as well. The team received recognition last year as a Fall Scholar All-America Team. Swimming and diving is looking to continue embodying the model of student athletes this winter.

With all the excitement for the upcoming winter sports season, Winterfest promises to be a fantastic new tradition at Tulane.
