Arcade’s January events preview

As students and faculty return to New Orleans after a long winter’s nap, they’ll have many local events from which to choose. From festivals to concerts to theater performances, New Orleans has a wide variety of options to fill your social calendar. Getting back in rhythm with the city can be tricky, but Arcade is here to highlight the coolest locales and festivities NOLA has to offer with our January events preview.

The NOLA Project 

The NOLA Project company will perform Sigrid Gilmer’s innovative new play entitled “Harry and the Thief” at the Contemporary Arts Center from Jan. 16-26. A unique blend of sci-fi and historical drama, “Harry and the Thief” uses dark humor to put a hilariously flippant spin on time travel and the ways it shifts the path of human history. 

Price: $20 for students with ID and $30 for adults.

Le Petit Theatre

Beginning on Jan. 17, Le Petit Theatre presents “Something Rotten!,” a musical farce that highlights the trials and tribulations of the Bottom brothers as they strive to challenge the celebrity of “The Bard” and revolutionize the world of theater. Running until Feb. 2,
“Something Rotten!” is sure to make you laugh until your sides hurt. 

Price: $15 for students and $60 for adults.

MidCity Makers’ January Holiday Market

If you’re interested in local art, home-baked pastries and a healthy dose of live music, look no further than the MidCity Makers’ Market New Year New You Edition on Jan. 18. The MMM team aspires to display the vibrant culture and varied attractions of Mid-City, cultivating a unique shopping experience that directly supports local artisans and craftspeople. 

Price: Free.

Miniature Tigers

Miniature Tigers will take the stage at Gasa Gasa on Jan. 25, showcasing their unique blend of synth-infused indie dream pop. An artsy venue perfectly arranged for indie artists like Miniature Tigers, Gasa Gasa is the ideal setting for the ultimate intimate concert experience. 

Price: $15.

King Cake Festival

One of New Orleans’ most beloved festivals will satisfy the sweet tooth of locals and tourists alike starting Jan. 26. Local bakeries dish out their tastiest confections, displaying the culture and decadence of the Crescent City in its most delicious form. From traditional to peculiar, there is a king cake for everyone. Just make sure to get a taste before the end of Mardi Gras!
