On Dec. 6 the women’s track and field team competed at the BSC Icebreaker Indoor Meet and had success in several events. Sophomore Aldrianna Dupree finished second in the 60-meter dash with a 7.68-second time. Sophomore Hunter Robinson also placed in the top 10 of the same event with a 7.77-second eighth-place finish.

Junior Kyah Loyd won the 60-meter hurdle event as well. Other notable results include Hunter Robinson’s third-place finish in the 200-meter dash and Sophomore Nastja Modic’s 3.80-meter second-place finish in the pole vault event.

Tulane took this momentum to the LSU Purple Tiger meet on Jan. 10, where the Green Wave recorded several top 10 finishes with sophomore Oneke Gwan again  finishing first in the women’s 400-meter dash. Tulane also won the 4×400 relay by a sizeable seven-second margin. Maya Harewood, Kyah Loyd, Oneke Gwan and Hunter Robinson made up the winning 4×400 relay team.

First-place success continued into Tulane’s third meet, the Samford Invitational on Jan. 17. Sophomore Trina Malej set a meet record in the triple jump and earned first place with a jump of 12.52 meters. Tulane freshman Maren Butler also had a historic day. Her 14.18-meter performance in women’s shot put has placed her third in the all-time Tulane record books for the event.

Tulane’s next meet is the Houston Power 5 and Mid-Major Invitational on Jan. 31. With such a strong start to the season, the team will be looking to build upon its success in the following meets before league competition. The AAC Indoor Championships will take place Feb. 28-29 in Birmingham, Alabama.
