Here in New Orleans, the fun never stops. With the annual celebration of Mardi Gras coming up, why not honor the whole month with fun-filled events? While there is an overload of activities on NOLA’s daily calendar, Arcade is here to highlight some of the most entertaining, memorable and amusing celebrations you won’t want to miss this February.
New Orleans Second Line
The best way to explore New Orleans culture is here. Almost every Sunday, parade leaders, reve
lers and bands fill the streets of New Orleans and represent New Orleans’ culture and spirit, offering the greatest festivities. Dance to the beat of the drum with your friends on February 9 at CTC Steppers.
Vinyasa and Vino (Yoga+ Wine)
Namaste and go to yoga on February 11. Work hard and play harder for a relaxing experience after a long day of classes. Attend a vinyasa flow class with your friends to relieve your stress while also getting a great spiritual workout. Beginners are always welcome! The event is followed by a potluck dinner and wine if you are 21+. On mild spring nights, all yogis will be able to watch the sunset from their balcony over Magazine Street.
Krewe of Cleopatra Parade
Break from tradition and celebrate Valentine’s Day with a parade this February 14! Before the Mardi Gras celebrations begin, let us honor the Egyptian Queen of the Nile. In 1972, the club was founded as the first Carnival club for women located on the West Bank of the Mississippi River. For 31 years, Cleopatra has proved her motto true time and time again: “Her Beauty is Timeless, Her Age is Now-Forever”.
The New Orleans French Film Festival
Join the red carpet of New Orleans this month and experience a series of breathtaking films, lovingly crafted by locals and craftsmen the world over. Beginning on February 27 at the Prytania Theatre, the New Orleans Film Society (NOFS) will feature twenty French-language films showing right here in the Crescent City. On opening night, don’t miss an exclusive screening of “Sibyl”, which competed for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. The festival runs until March 4.
Price for opening night: $17
