Tulane track and field sprints to the finish of its indoor season

Tulane women’s track and field finished its indoor season strong this weekend at the AAC Championships in Birmingham, Alabama.The team put up an impressive battle in the championship and now begins preparations for the outdoor season

Tulane dominated the leaderboard in the 60-meter hurdle, with senior Brandi Hughes taking home third place with a time of 8.36 seconds and junior Kyah Loyd achieving second overall, setting a new school record at 8.33 seconds. 

Tulane continued to perform well in the 4×400 meter relay with a team comprised of Loyd, senior Maya Harewood and sophomores Hunter Robinson and Louise Jones. Finishing in second, the squad set a new career best time at 3:42.43, sliding up into the seventh overall spot in Tulane history. 

In the triple jump, sophomore Trina Malej barely missed the podium finishing in the fourth spot with a leap of 12.68 meters. Junior Jordyn Lesh jumped for 10.36 meters placing 19th overall. 

Only sophomore Olivia Hicks competed in the high jump, tying for ninth place at 1.62 meters.

Senior Mary Catherine Stovall and junior Bridgid Selfors both competed in the 3,000 meter finishing 41st at 10:37.92 and 47th at 10:47.93 respectively. 

In total the Green Wave put up 37 points in the meet and landed 10th, with Houston securing the victory to finish their indoor season. The team will take a short two-week break to prepare for the upcoming outdoor season which begins March 13-14 at the Southern Invitational held in Birmingham.
