“O Let’s Do It” rapper, Waka Flocka, also known as Waka Flocka Flame, went “Hard in the Paint” last Thursday at his concert at Republic NOLA and surely received a “Round of Applause” from attendees. “No Hands” in the venue went unclapped. All puns aside, his performance garnered positive reception from viewers.

“I thought it was really nice to have a Tulane event outside of the Tulane campus,” junior Casey Schwartz said. “I feel like a lot of times we never branch outside of our little Tulane bubble. The Republic NOLA was a great place to host the event, and it was a lot of fun.”

Initially sponsored by Tulane’s chapter of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, the concert received ample advertising on campus. Promotional posters were plastered on various bulletin boards in academic buildings, the Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life and various dormitories across campus. In fact, the fraternity set up a table along McAlister Drive to endorse the event and encourage fellow students to come out to support the concert.

“I actually heard about it walking past down on McAlister,” freshman Katharine Heinemann said. “I know the Kappa Sigma fraternity was promoting it and they had been talking about it all week.”

Performing alongside DJ Whoo Kid, Waka Flocka had an electric night. Despite Kappa Sigma pulling its association with the event prior to the concert, several Tulane students still showed up for a good time.

Aside from its temporary associations, this concert was much like a regular one. While a significant portion of attendees were from Tulane, there were audience members from outside the school as well, making for an exciting show for all involved.
