Dummies’ Guide: Tulane Football vs. Temple

1. Tulane Football (2-2, 1-0 American Athletic Conference) will take on Temple (4-0, 1-0 AAC) at 11 a.m. Saturday in Philadelphia. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
2. The Temple Owls are one of twenty remaining undefeated teams in the nation. The Owls’ 4-0 start is their first in 40 seasons.
3. The Owls have taken a lead of 13 or more points in every game this season. So far, the team played Penn State, Cincinnati, Massachusetts and Charlotte.
4. Tulane goes in as the underdog for this week’s matchup. Temple opened the week favored to win by 16.5 points.
5. Temple junior running back Jahad Thomas is ranked No. 4 in the nation in all-purpose yards per game with 208. Tulane’s defense will need to step up to keep Tulane’s offense in the game.
6. Last week vs. UCF, Tulane held the Knights to -34 rushing yards and 392 passing yards. The Knights gained 149 of those yards in the air in the fourth quarter after Tulane’s starters were pulled.
7. After Tulane’s 45-31 win over UCF, Knight fans will continue to receive free beer during games until a UCF win.
8. Temple has averaged 30.75 points per game on offense while allowing opponents an average of 15.5 points per game. Tulane has scored an average of 25 points per game while allowing opponents 35 points per game.
9. Tulane’s offense is perfect in the red zone this season and is tied for No. 1 in the nation in red zone offense. The Wave has entered the red zone 10 times and has come away with seven touchdowns and three field goals.
10. After a blocked punt in Tulane’s game vs. Central Florida, the Wave is ranked No. 123 of 127 in the nation in net punting yards with 30.96.
11. Head Coach Curtis Johnson has taken a page out of New Orleans Saints’ playbook and spreads the wealth all over the field. Four different Tulane running backs have over 100 yards rushing on the season, and three different players have 150 or more yards receiving. Eight different Tulane players have scored a touchdown through the first four games.
