Letter to the Editor: Sodexo values employees
Two weeks ago, Tulane Dining Services was saddened to hear of the death of one our own, Tiffany Thomas. Thomas was a familiar face in Bruff Commons Dining Hall, and her loss is felt deeply on this campus by her coworkers and by students, faculty and staff. While Thomas was employed by Sodexo as an affiliate employee, she was truly a part of the Tulane family.
We appreciate The Hullabaloo’s call to the Tulane community to engage with Sodexo and other affiliate employees in a civil and respectful way. Together, Tulane and Sodexo work to ensure that all Sodexo affiliate employees are given the same level of support and respect afforded to Tulane employees.
Sodexo employees receive a base pay that is 14 percent higher than the state average for food service workers and 27.5 percent higher than federal minimum wage. Base pay starts at $10 an hour, in addition to a daily meal stipend, and base pay for skilled positions starts at $13 an hour.
Additionally, in partnership with Tulane Shuttles and Transportation, affiliate employees are once again able to ride Tulane-operated fixed-line shuttles through the Tulane Shuttle Affiliate Ridership Program.
