Student found dead in on-campus residence hall

A Tulane student was found dead Sunday night around 6 p.m. in his residence hall, according to the Tulane University Police Department. The student was identified as freshman Vineet Kallanagowdar.
New Orleans Police Department, Emergency Medical Services and Fire Department reported to his on-campus residence.
Kallanagowdar came to Tulane from Topeka, Kansas. He participated in scholar’s bowl at Washburn Rural High School.
Tulane President Mike Fitts sent out an email this afternoon notifying staff, faculty and students of the death.
“Our deepest sympathy and prayers are with Vineet’s family and his friends,” Fitts wrote.
Students who are in need of assistance can contact CAPS at 504-314-2277 or Student Resources and Support Services at 504-314-2160. After hours, students can contact The Line at 504-264-6074, which is available 24/7, or the Student Affairs Staff Member on-call at 504-920-9900.
