Gun discharged Sunday morning near Zimpel Street

In the early hours of Sunday, Jan. 12, an individual fired a gun in the 7100 block of Zimpel Street near The Boot Bar and Grill. According to a Tulane University Police Department report, the shot resulted from an altercation between the suspected shooter and an employee of The Boot.
TUPD responded to the scene around 2 a.m. and conducted a preliminary investigation. According to the TUPD report, video evidence revealed the two individuals were involved in a physical altercation before the shooter fired the gun toward the Boot employee.
After firing the weapon, the shooter fled on foot toward Audubon Street, into the residential area surrounding Tulane. TUPD conducted a search of the area and concluded that the shooter was no longer in the vicinity. The gun’s discharge did not result in any injuries.
According to the TUPD report, the suspect has no affiliation with Tulane. TUPD is actively investigating this incident.
