Office hours are not just for desperate moments leading up to an exam when students seek answers to last minute questions. At the beginning of each semester, many professors encourage students to stop by their offices even if just to get to know them and their academic interests. Now, newly appointed Dean of Newcomb-Tulane College Lee Skinner is instituting office hours of her own.

Dean Skinner is holding weekly office hours on Fridays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in 113 Cudd Hall. With these hours, she wants to hear about undergraduates’ experiences at Tulane.

“I always enjoy spending time with students; in fact, it’s the best part of my job,” Skinner said. “[Students] don’t need to have a reason to come and see me; they can just stop by, introduce themselves if we haven’t already met, and chat. Students should feel free to come and get to know me.”

As the dean of Newcomb-Tulane College, Skinner plays a role in programs and units relevant to all undergraduates from Academic and Career Advising to the Honors Program, the Center for Global Education and more. Skinner’s various roles around campus allow her to meet and connect with students of all disciplines.

“Whatever is on [students’] minds concerning their academic journeys here, they should feel free to address with me. I hope to learn more about their aspirations and how the college can support them as they seek out intellectually challenging experiences,” Skinner said.

There are other ways to reach various Tulane administrators. President Fitts occasionally offers office hours, most recently on this past Monday. In the future, keep an eye out for an email with a sign up option to meet with President Fitts. In addition, all Tulane deans and their contact information are listed onlineIf you have something on your mind or simply want to get know Dean Skinner, the new dean of Newcomb-Tulane College, one could consider stopping by office hours! For more information, Dean Skinner reminds students that they can always check the events calendar or, follow NTC on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. “I welcome all students to my office hours and look forward to talking with you!”
