Small anti-gay, anti-abortion demonstration draws counter-protest

Less than a dozen members of a Christian group unaffiliated with Tulane University staged an anti-gay and anti-abortion demonstration at the intersection of Freret Street and McAlister Place on Friday, quickly drawing a counter-protest.
At 12 p.m., around 50 students had gathered in front of the group, the Official Street Preachers, chanting and exchanging taunts.
A few students became visibly emotional as one demonstrator shouted anti-gay messages at students gathering.
Off-campus groups or organizations are not permitted to host demonstrations on Tulane’s campus, according to the university’s campus demonstration policy. The anti-gay group stood on the sidewalk of Freret Street.
