A New Orleans native, businessman Bill Hrapmann is deeply entrenched in the culture that surrounds Tulane University. Hrapmann attended Holy Cross High School in New Orleans and was recruited by Tulane in 1976 on a baseball scholarship. He focused his studies on business and finance courses, earning a bachelor’s of science in management degree after four years in 1981.
During his baseball career at Tulane, the team won the Metro Conference Tournament in 1979 and went on to be the first Tulane baseball team to advance to the NCAA regionals. Hrapmann said that the team was incredibly hardworking and successful on and off the field.
Later on, Hrapmann said, “I went back and looked at a picture of the team … you can see that 95% of the people that were on a team became very successful once they graduated and went into the business world.”
After his time at Tulane, Hrapmann said he wished to further his education and attended the University of New Orleans for his MBA studies while also working full time. He was determined to finish his MBA quickly and graduated in 15 months.
After earning his MBA, Hrapmann accepted a position at an international brokerage firm as a financial advisor. For the next six years, Hrapmann guided his clients on investments and estate planning. In 1988, he started his own financial advisory business. He still owns this company today with his son Chad in Mandeville, Louisiana. The father-son duo recently wrote a book “Taxes, Assets and Heirs: Personal Wealth Management for Business Owners.”
Hrapmann said many of his successes can be attributed to the lessons he learned during his time at Tulane, from balancing college life and athletics to transitioning from the corporate world to owning his own business.
“I would suggest students balance their fun and their academics,” Hrapmann said. “But remember that what you do at school, those four years can have an impression all the rest of your life.”
