As the 2024 NFL Draft ends and the dust settles, many teams are satisfied with their draft hauls. But how did Tulane prospects do when it came to their opportunity to play in the NFL?
The Green Bay Packers drafted Michael Pratt 245th overall. While it may have been a little later than he, or anyone, was expecting, Pratt landed in a great position.
The Packers may appear to already have their franchise quarterback in Jordan Love, but the depth chart leaves a lot of room for Pratt to grow in a new environment. If Pratt performs well in training camp, he can easily become the team’s second string quarterback.
While that’s not the starting position he may currently desire, this role will do wonders for his progression. He will learn under Packers quarterback coach Tom Clements, a man who has worked with both Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, as well as helping Love get to the level he is at now. Tulane’s former star quarterback will look to make his mark in this league — it just may require a few years of growth in Green Bay.
The other player drafted from the Green Wave was wide receiver Jha’Quan Jackson, who is headed to the Tennessee Titans. Drafted 182nd overall, Jackson will reunite with former Tulane running back Tyjae Spears as they look to push the Titans’ offense to new heights.
Jackson spent five years at Tulane and had a phenomenal final year as he earned third-team All-American Athletic Conference. The Tennessee Titans offense leaves much to be desired, and Jackson will certainly have an opportunity. The team’s top target DeAndre Hopkins is nearing the end of his career, while their second receiver, Calvin Ridley, recently had an underwhelming stint in Jacksonville, Florida. Jackson is known for his ability to contribute both on offense and on special teams — a clear reason for his draft selection. Jackson will hopefully gain some rapport with young Titans quarterback Will Levis and play an important role in the Tennessee offense.
Four players also signed as undrafted free agents and one more is headed to a team’s minicamp.
The lightning-quick receiver Lawrence Keys III recently signed to the Buffalo Bills and will have ample opportunity on both offense and special teams after Buffalo lost their top two targets this past offseason.
Cornerback Lance Robinson recently came to terms with the Cincinnati Bengals making him one of two secondary players to be signed after the New York Jets picked up Jarius Monroe. Both of these players will have to prove themselves in the offseason to earn a spot on the final 53-man rosters, but they certainly have time to make an impact.
Lastly, the hometown New Orleans Saints netted two former Green Wave players. The Saints signed center Sincere Haynesworth as an undrafted free agent and invited offensive tackle to minicamp.
As with the other undrafted free agents, these two will have to put in exceptional performances over the summer. But the Saints’ offensive line has room to improve, which gives both Haynesworth and Cameron Wire a stellar opportunity to make the final roster.
With at least seven players entering the NFL realm, Tulane Football has a lot to be proud of as they continue to legitimize themselves among other top programs in the NCAA. The Green Wave will continue to cheer these players on as they embark on a new and difficult journey.
