With the Tulane University baseball season just around the corner, the team seems to be in great shape to continue its success in the American Athletic Conference. Coming off a conference championship, the Green Wave had an incredible offseason of recruitment. There are “twenty-two incoming players from fifteen states and one Canadian.” Out of this group, it features 13 prep stars and a mix of nine four-year transfers to accompany our lone junior college transfer. The young talent that the Green Wave is bringing in is incredible for the program, but in my opinion, the experienced players that were brought to New Orleans are what will make the upcoming year successful.
Looking at the recent success of the Tulane baseball team, the most notable category is on the offensive side. Tulane’s batting average has increased from .251 to .279 in the past season, along with nine more home runs and 90 RBIs. Tulane’s success offensively has been mirrored on the defensive side. The Green Wave fielding average has gone up from .970 to .974, showing true in the six fewer errors that were made. Tulane will hope to continue this offensive and defensive trajectory as the season approaches.
Tulane has struggled on the mound during the past couple of years. In 2023, Tulane had a team-earned run average of 7.08, a big contributor to their mid-season struggle. Although they got that down to an average of 5.37 this past year, they are striking out way fewer batters.
This season, Tulane’s true key to success will not only be their consistent offense but will also rely on their pitching staff. If they have an earned run average below 5.50, it will take less stress off the offense to win ball games.
