The internet, once again, has outdone itself. While the sports world is focused on March Madness and the start of the MLB season as the NBA drags on through March, TikTok and Instagram Reels remain focused on what is truly important in sports coverage: honoring the greatness of the one and only LeBron James.
What started as a few parody songs has become a full internet sensation, with people taking to AI or even getting into Garageband and changing lyrics to hit songs so that they honor our glorious king. It even got to the point where LeBron — yes, the GOAT himself — acknowledged the songs in a post-game interview. With that in mind, let’s look at our five favorite ones that really shine a light on Lebron’s on-court greatness and off-court grandeur:
Kicking off the list is a cover of Gotye’s mid-2010s classic “Somebody that I used to know.” With an up-tempo, remix feel and a catchy chorus starting with a great first line, “my glorious king LeBron.” While you will definitely be singing this one throughout the day, other songs more encapsulate what it means to truly praise LeBron.
WALK THE MOON’s “Shut up and Dance with Me” has been a song that you can’t help but get up and dance to dating back to my Bar Mitzvah. What’s better than a song that makes you get up and dance, but one that makes you get up, dance and honor LeBron’s greatness? Like “LeBron that I used to know,” it’s catchy lyrics and upbeat tempo captivates you from the get go. Truly one of the best to come out of this trend.
The one that started it all. An AI-created, R&B tune that keeps it simple yet sends a message. Set to some of his great highlights, “LeBron, LeBron LeBron James” set the tone for how to honor the king in song.
Probably the most creative one on the list. Set to Kendrick Lamar’s “Luther,” “LeLuther” goes all out in its appraisal of LeBron. The song takes Kendrick’s track to a new level, with lyrics highlighting what they would do “if LeBron is mine.” Make sure to look up the full version too, where they even go into SZA’s part of the song to continue emphasizing LeBron’s greatness.
The best one and not even close. A cover of Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror,” the song’s chorus calls on all of us to “say his name” and pay attention to LeBron’s greatness. It even brings up timely events, such as the Luka Doncic for Anthony David trade, setting the tone for the rest of LeBron and the Lakers season. The song’s chorus captivated audiences so much that even the Baylor men’s choir did their own version of it, which is linked above.
These songs not only excel at honoring LeBron James’s on and off-court greatness, but they successfully get everyone ready for the next chapter in LeBron’s career, with the NBA regular season concluding April 13, and the playoffs starting a week later. Let’s see if LeBron can continue to dominate as he has done for 22 seasons.
