A shooting just blocks from Tulane University’s Uptown campus left one person dead and one injured early Sunday morning, according to Fox8News.
Three men in a car were fired at on the block of 7700 Willow St. at around 2:49 a.m. on April 6. One man was declared dead at the scene, one was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and the third was not injured.
The man killed was identified by friends of the victim as 20-year-old Colby Scheffler, who graduated from Chalmette High School and served in the U.S. Army.
The victim in the incident was not a Tulane affiliate, according to the Daily Activity Report sent to The Hullabaloo. The two other people in the car have not been identified.
Tulane University Police Department officers were dispatched to the location at 3:06 a.m. in reference to a gunshot victim, where New Orleans Police Department officers were already on the scene.
The reporting person stated that they were approached by the person stating someone shot them. Tulane Emergency Medical Services transported the person to the University Medical Center New Orleans hospital.
The shooting is currently under investigation by NOPD.
