Tulane Med student shot during armed robbery in Haiti

A Tulane medical student was shot and wounded during an an armed robbery on Thursday, June 23 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, according to a statement released by the university.

The student, identified as Bhumi Patel, was in Haiti for a university program to help promote child and maternal health.

According to a statement released on June 24 by Marc Kahn Sr., associate dean for admissions and student affairs at the Tulane School of Medicine, Patel was shot in the hand and chest, and was flown to Miami, Florida for medical treatment. She has since been in contact with her family.

Patel was accompanied by one other unidentified Tulane medical student during the robbery, said Kahn, and the university is in contact with them.
