Buku to electrify festival-goers with hip-hop, EDM acts
March 9, 2016
Get out your fanny packs and flash tattoos because it’s finally festival season. For music lovers, planning out which artists to see before the big weekend is half of the fun, and this weekend’s BUKU Music + Art Project is no exception.
Festivities start at 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, both lineups offering a ton of exciting must-see performances. If you’re unsure of which direction to go in, The Arcade’s picks will highlight the acts that you absolutely can’t miss.
Friday’s headliners include Kid Cudi and CHVRCHES. Cudi’s recent collaboration with Kanye West on “The Life of Pablo” is only one reason to have an interest in his performance. CHVRCHES won’t disappoint with its strong vocals and pop beats; they’ll be attending other large festivals, like Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City, later this year.
More Friday acts include newcomer Fetty Wap whose fresh hip-hop tracks ruled the beginning of the fall. Under the same category, hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd will offer a similar exhilarating crowd. AlunaGeorge, who has worked with Jack Ü and Disclosure, is a great option for anyone looking for upbeat dancing on Friday.
Electronic dance music dominates Saturday’s lineup, with performances from dance music veteran Nero to Canadian duo Purity Ring. Saturday is headlined by well-established electronic act Pretty Lights, performing with newly-formed addition Analog Future Band. Miike Snow and BØRNS, two indie-pop groups with electronic beats comparable to Friday’s CHVRCHES, will also take the stage Saturday.
Other electronic dance acts to look out for on Saturday are What So Not, Feed Me and Cashmere Cat. Tulane senior Max Chung, better known as CRWNS, will take the stage Saturday, along with similar acts NGHTMRE and Louis The Child.
Saturday’s hip-hop acts include Future, whose recent album with Drake was followed by recent release “EVOL,” offering a slew of new tracks to hear live. Earl Sweatshirt and A$AP Ferg are two more hip-hop acts who, along with Future, will balance out the EDM acts and contribute to Saturday’s well-rounded lineup.
