TEMS, TUPD respond to 34 medical emergencies, multiple crimes during Mardi Gras

Tulane and New Orleans emergency services responded to 34 medical emergencies during the height of Mardi Gras season, according to the TUPD daily activities report.
These emergency services included Tulane Emergency Medical Services, New Orleans Emergency Medical Services and Tulane University Police Department. These incidents took place from the evening of the Krewe of Nyx parade Feb. 11 to Mardi Gras day, Feb. 17.
Aside from 12 responses to parties disturbing the peace, TUPD also responded to two drunk driving incidents, four cases of criminal trespassing, one arrest for impersonating a police officer, three incidents of criminal damage, two residential burglaries, one hit and run and one search for possible marijuana possession.
The 34 medical emergencies included 12 alcohol-related incidents, six cuts, two sprained ankles, one injury in the shower, two complaints of abdominal pain and two head injuries.
The afflicted individuals included students, visitors and other affiliates. TEMS and NOEMS transported a total of 28 students, visitors and affiliates to the hospital.
New Orleans Police Department arrested two individuals, including one Tulane student, in the Uptown area for two incidents of driving under the influence. NOPD arrested the student around 5 a.m. Feb. 13 after he struck a parked vehicle, and the officers smelt alcohol on his breath. NOPD arrested the second person around 8:30 p.m. Feb. 14 after he was involved in a single-car crash.
The four cases of criminal trespassing included a suspicious man found in Reily Student Recreation Center while it was closed, a Tulane-affiliated man showering in a women’s residence hall bathroom, an intoxicated man sleeping on a porch, and a possible rape at an off-campus residence.
The possible rape was reported around 5:30 p.m. Feb. 13. One female and two males were on the reporting person’s property, and the reporting person believed that a rape may have occurred. TUPD canvassed the area and was unable to find the suspects or any evidence, and conducted routing patrol checks of the area following the incident.
NOPD arrested a person for impersonating a police officer around 4:30 p.m. Feb. 15. The individual was holding a portable radio and claiming to be an officer. He was arrested, and NOPD confiscated the radio.
The three incidents of criminal damage included a broken window in Reily, the theft of letters from the front sign of Loyola University New Orleans and a damaged car after a person walked on top of it.
The residential burglaries occurred around 10 a.m. Feb. 12 on the 7100 block of Freret Street and around 8:30 a.m. Feb. 15 on the 1400 block of Audubon Street.
