Student reports incident of sexual battery on Oak

Released by TUPD

A student flagged down a Tulane University Police Department officer to report a sexual battery at 11:19 p.m. Friday.

The reporting student said that she and her friend, who witnessed the incident, were walking north on the sidewalk next to campus when they were approached by an unknown subject. The witness described the subject as a black male, approximately 40 years old, wearing an orange-colored plaid shirt and blue jeans.

The subject approached the students after dismounting his white bicycle and proceeded to tackle one of the students while grabbing her buttocks.

The student’s friend helped fight off the subject, who then fled west on Oak Street. A canvas of the area did not yield any results.

The Student Affairs person on-call arrived on scene. New Orleans Police Department also arrived to the scene and notified NOPD Sex Crime Detectives of the incident.

*Sexual battery is defined as the intentional, non-consensual touching of another person’s anus or genitals.
