Weekend Crime Report: September 1-3
Hit and Run:
The Tulane University Police Department responded to a report of a hit-and-run incident at 11:52 a.m. Friday on campus.
A staff member parked his car in a parking lot on campus and returned to find the front bumper damaged. The TUPD officer examined the scene and determined that somebody struck the car and fled the scene.
The case is ongoing, and surveillance cameras will be reviewed.
Simple Burglary:
TUPD responded to a report of a burglary at 1:38 p.m. Friday in Newcomb Hall.
The reporting person said he found his department-issued laptop missing from his desk upon entering his office at 12:30 p.m. after having left the laptop on his desk Wednesday before locking the office for the day.
The TUPD officer observed no sign of forced entry.
A New Orleans Police Department number was generated, a bulletin was sent for identifiable property and a Maxient report was completed. The Criminal Investigative Unit was notified and took over the investigation.
Theft:
TUPD officers responded to a report of a theft at 5:56 p.m. Friday on the first floor of the Student Health Center.
The officer collected information from the reporting person and collected camera footage. The Criminal Investigative Department was notified.
Bicycle Theft:
TUPD officers responded to a report of a bicycle theft at 11:12 a.m. Sunday at the Wall Residential College bicycle rack.
The reporting person reported a bicycle and lock stolen sometime during the first half of the weekend.
No surveillance cameras were in the area, but a Maxient report was submitted.
Theft:
TUPD responded to a walk-in report of a theft at 4:49 p.m. Sunday.
The reporting person said he had parked his bike at 2 p.m. on Saturday between the Navy ROTC building and Weinmann Hall. Upon returning at 7 p.m. on the same day, he noticed his storage bag on the bicycle was open and that several items were missing.
A Maxient report was submitted.
