Tulane residency program plans move to East Jefferson

Tulane Medical Center will shift many of its services to other local hospitals over the next two years to allow for new graduate programs.

Tulane University’s medical residency program will move to East Jefferson General Hospital over the next two years as part of a recent deal that sold Tulane’s three hospitals to Louisiana Children’s Medical Center Health for $150 million.

Under that deal, most of Tulane’s 500 residents will move from Tulane hospital to East Jefferson, according the The Advocate | Times-Picayune, who first reported the shift.

East Jefferson had struggled for years until LCMC bought the beleaguered hospital in 2020. LCMC officials agreed to pour $100 million into the hospital and have already spent $70 million on emergency generators and a new heating and cooling system, among other improvements. LCMC also plans to renovate the emergency department in 2023.
