The United States Men’s National Team defeated Iran 1-0 to qualify for the knockout round of the World Cup. The USMNT finished second in Group B behind England after this game.

Christian Pulisic opened the scoring in the 38th minute after tapping home Sergiño Dest’s headed cross. Pulisic injured himself on the goal, and Brenden Aaronson replaced him. Tim Weah thought he doubled the Americans’ lead, but he was ruled offside.

The final 20 minutes were tense as the Americans held on to their slim lead. Walker Zimmerman produced a goal line clearance to preserve the USMNT’s lead, but ultimately the Stars and Stripes prevailed.

The USMNT will play the Netherlands in the knockout round on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 9 a.m. CST and will be broadcast on FOX.
