Tulane University said in a statement on Friday that it does “not expect to be impacted by saltwater intrusion at this point,” because of the rainfall from this week flowing into the Mississippi River.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced earlier this week that “the saltwater wedge is receding downstream in the Mississippi River and is now five miles further” from Tulane’s water intake system.
The Corps said the Orleans and Jefferson parishes are in the clear from the salt water intruding on drinking water.
Tulane said it will continue to work to prepare if anything changes. The school also said it would no longer send saltwater updates to students unless the situation changes significantly.
