The Green Wave has a new athletic director, Tulane University confirmed Tuesday.
The school recently reached a deal with David Harris, who will join Tulane from the University of Northern Iowa on Jan. 3.
Harris has worked at Northern Iowa since 2016 and will bring with him experience from over 25 years in Division I athletics administration. Previously, Harris worked in the athletic departments of his alma mater, University of Mississippi, the University of Wisconsin and Iowa State University, where he was the school’s sports administrator for football, men’s basketball and wrestling. As a student at Ole Miss, Harris played on the football team. He is a Baton Rouge native.
Harris has also earned prominent titles in the NCAA, being selected to the 40-member Division I council as well as being the chair of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Oversight Committee for 2023-24.
Harris will replace Troy Dannen, who, after originally coming to Tulane from Northern Iowa in 2016, has left for the University of Washington. With a growing athletic department headlined by recent football success, Harris will play a key role in cementing the Green Wave as a key player throughout college athletics.
