Tulane University announced its new head women’s basketball coach, Ashley Langford, a 2009 alum, as Tulane’s seventh coach on Tuesday.
Langford will replace former women’s basketball coach Lisa Stockton after she announced her retirement last month after 30 years of coaching. Langford will leave Stony Brook University, where she has coached women’s basketball for the past three years.
Langford, who will become Tulane’s first Black womens basketball coach, played on Tulane’s basketball team as a point guard from 2005 to 2009.
Langford was known as an all-time assist leader and a member of the 1000-point club, with 1,047 points scored during her career.
In 2006, she was the first Tulane player to be named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team. In 2009, Langford was named the Conference USA Scholar Athlete for Women’s Basketball, which highlighted her academic, community service and basketball achievements.
Tulane will host a news conference next Tuesday in Yulman Stadium at 1 p.m. to officially introduce Langford as the new coach.
