Unknown male threatens student into van, police say

Tulane University Police Department received a report Friday night from friends of a student who was threatened by an unknown male off campus on Thursday, according to university spokesperson Mike Strecker.

The victim, who did not wish to report the incident to the police, was with friends on Thursday when an unknown male, whom they had met earlier in the evening, had “threatened to force the victim into a van,” Strecker said in a statement.

The incident happened off campus. The exact location is unclear.

The victim fled from the scene of the incident and returned to her friends, Strecker said.

Because this incident occurred off campus, TUPD referred the matter to NOPD for investigation.

TUPD asked anyone with information to contact the department at 504-865-5381. Police will increase patrols around campus, Strecker said, and the Division of Student Affairs has reached out to friends of the victim.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
