Green Wave baseball made history this past week, becoming the first team in the American Athletics Conference’s history to win back-to-back championships after defeating Wichita State University on Sunday, 11-10.

Leading the way for the Green Wave on Sunday is Jackson Linn, who hit two home runs in the championship game, including the bomb to center field that walked it off for Tulane.

With Linn’s clutch plays and Brady Margaret and Connor Rasmussen’s consistent batting, Tulane’s offense has been rolling throughout the AAC tournament, bringing in at least seven runs in each of the four games.

The bullpen has also shown out during the conference tournament, with Chandler Welch striking out 10 batters in Tulane’s dominant 14-2 win over Florida Atlantic University. In a rematch against FAU later in the tournament, Billy Price stepped up, allowing only two hits in seven innings

Clinching the conference title, the Green Wave will fly to Corvallis, Oregon to play the Oregon State University Beavers on Friday night. The Beavers, who are 42-14 on the season, are No. 15 nationally.

Tulane has also guaranteed itself a game on Saturday against either Nicholls State University or the University of California, Irvine, who are the other two teams in the Corvallis region. Tulane has had success against Nicholls, beating them in both games played earlier this season. UCI is a different story, as they swept the Green Wave in New Orleans in the second series played this year.

No matter the sport, the postseason is always about which team can get hot at the right time, and the Green Wave has been as hot as any team in the nation, winning nine out of their last ten games. Finishing the regular season with a 35-24 record gives Tulane a much more solid foundation than when they entered the postseason last year with a 19-42 overall record, the worst record ever by a postseason team.

Tulane will hope to do inter-regional damage when they face off against Oregon State on Friday, May 31 at 8 p.m. CDT on ESPNU.
