Tulane University announced yesterday that campus will be closed on Tuesday, and all operations will shift to virtual due to potential snow and ice.
A national deep freeze that will impact almost 300 million Americans is expected to reach New Orleans, with freezing temperatures starting on Sunday evening.
The last time it snowed in New Orleans was in 2009, but the city hasn’t seen over an inch of snow since 1963.
On Tuesday, the city expects 3 to 5 inches; other Louisiana areas could see up to 8 inches.
Dining services for on-campus students will be reduced, with some potential closures in the Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life food court. The Tulane Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response recommended stocking up on bottled water and non-perishable food.
“I truly cannot remember an event in my lifetime with this type of confidence in the potential for a high-impact winter storm in our region,” New Orleans meteorologist Scott Pilié wrote in an Instagram post Saturday morning.
