New Orleans plays home to a handful of timeless and essential landmarks: Bourbon Street, Audubon Park, Big Freedia. Only one of these New Orleans institutions, however, is playing a Birthday Bash at 10 p.m. Friday at Club Caesar’s. The very pillars of Club Caesar’s will shake when hip-hop extraordinaires Katey Red, Sissy Nobby, Big Choo, Roca B, Ms. T and Fly Boy Keno take the stage along with Big Freedia herself to offer the freshest bounce music the Crescent City has to offer.

For those of you in need of a quick introduction, here’s the Arcade’s Big Freedia 101: Freddie Ross, colloquially known as “Da Queen Diva,” crashed onto New Orleans’ bounce music scene in 1999 with the release of her debut album, “An Ha, Oh Yeah.” Propelled to local popularity by such singles as “Azz Everywhere” and “Gin In My System,” Freedia is the reigning queen of the bounce music subgenre known as “Sissy Bounce.” Da Queen Diva herself defines “Sissy Bounce” as a type of bounce music reserved for “biological men with varied and ambiguous sexual identities.” Freedia’s fearless stage appearances in full drag earned her a nomination at the 22nd GLAAD Media Awards last year.

We at the Arcade pride ourselves on our articulacy, but we believe there’s only one phrase that properly describes this event: absolutely insane booty-dropping mayhem- in a good way.
